Vergil C. Lorenz Jr. aka “Butch” was born Nov 16, 1939 to Vergil and LaVaughn (Hester) Lorenz Sr. at the Watonga Hospital weighing a mere 3lbs. and 5oz. He was a miracle baby to them both and was the only child they were able to have born. He graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1958, where he was an FFA Degree State Farmer and was also a very accomplished showman with is registered Guernsey cattle. He then attended Oklahoma State University for a stint, before settling at Okmulgee Vo-Tech, getting his degree in Auto Body and Painting. That’s how he and Norma Albertson met. She was sitting at the Dairy Kreme and Butchy Boy drove by in his 1950 steel blue hot rod Ford wearing his crazy, little hat. Her heart swooned and the rest is history. Butch and Norma were married April 20, 1963 in Dewar, OK. The newlyweds then embarked on their cross-state journey back to Blaine Co, where Norma saw her first wheat field and combine ever. They lived in Watonga and Butch worked at United States Gypsum at Southard. After just a few months, Butch got a call from Norma’s step-dad saying that he got Butch a job at the Glass Plant in Henryetta, which was a highly coveted union paying job. He loved the Glass Plant and stayed there for eight years before the plant closed. During those years, Butch and Norma gave birth to 2 daughters, Kelli in 1965, and Kristi in 1968. The young couple enjoyed the time spent with Norma’s side of the family, even though it was east of I-35. The family then moved to Oklahoma City where the new plant, Dayton Tire & Rubber was opened and Butch made test tires. After working there for 3 years, Butch decided he was tired of working for someone else and wanted to be his own boss and get back to his roots the farm. His parents were struggling to do all the farming and run the dairy, so Butch, Norma and the girls loaded up and moved back to the family farm, which has been in the Lorenz family for over 100 years. For the next 45 years, they raised their girls while running the dairy farm and attending numerous Basketball games. They were both very blessed with the gift of three grandchildren and a great grand-son. Butch is survived by his wife of 55 years Norma Rose of the farm; his daughter, Kelli Grove of Yukon, and her daughter Kayli Goin husband Joe and their son Maverick, also of Yukon; youngest daughter Kristi Gore, husband Kevin and their 2 kids, Gabe and Grace E. all from Leedey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vergil C. and LaVaughn Lorenz Sr. Services will be at 10:45AM Tuesday, March 20, 2018 At the Loyal Evangelical Church. Memorials may be made to the Loyal Volunteer Fire Dept. Loyal OK. Under the Direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
