Edward Lester Sampson, Jr. was born on November 3, 1971 to Edward and Donna Mae (Brooks) Sampson, Sr. at Clinton, OK. He departed this life on February 2, 2017 at Oklahoma City, OK. Junior was raised in the Greenfield area. He worked in the oilfield for a number of years. Junior enjoyed cookouts and taking his girls fishing. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Watonga Indian Baptist Church with Pastor John Whiteeagle officiating. Carl James Brewer

Born - May 11, 1946 at Watonga Died - February 25, 2017 at his home in El Reno

Carl moved to El Reno 9 years ago from Watonga. He was a former county commissioner for Blaine County and a member of the Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

On February 13, 1965, Carl married Patricia Howard. Pat survives him in death.

He is also survived by sons, Tony Brewer and wife, Christie, of Watonga, Troy Brewer of Yukon, Patrick Brewer and fiancée, Kim Lambert, of Weatherford; a daughter, Carla Tillery and husband, Danny, of Glenwood, Ark. and his brothers, Kenneth Brewer and Gene Brewer, both of Watonga; sisters: Linda Taylor and husband, John, of Watonga and Carol Yearwood and husband, Frank, of Pampa, Texas.

13 grandchildren: A. J. Brewer, Jesse Brewer, Tiffany Kizer, Milo Tillery, Frank Tillery, Bailey Brewer, Nadia Brewer, Kory Brewer, Noe Brewer, Leah Brewer, John Brewer, Cherish Brewer, Jeremy Brewer and 9 great-grandchildren.

His parents and two sisters, Mary Maxine and Tina Erlene, preceded him in death.

Clara Isabell (Driever) Cordell

Clara Isabell (Driever) Cordell was born on September 4, 1920, in Hitchcock, Oklahoma, to Ernest and Mabel Driever. She died on February 22, 2017, at the age of 96 in Oklahoma City.

Clara grew up on a farm near Hitchcock with three brothers and two sisters. She attended high school in Hitchcock, and met her future husband, Kenneth Cordell, in Watonga OK. They married on June 28, 1941, and they lived in Connecticut, on a farm near Fay OK, and in Independence MO, before settling in Oklahoma City. Clara and Kenneth had three daughters: Karen Cordell (Bossier City, LA), Linda Leckman MD (Salt Lake City, UT), and Donna Sternberg (Eden Prairie, MN). She was an active member of University Place Christian Church, teaching Sunday School and participating with the Christian Women's Fellowship.

She continued her work with Group 4 of CWF when she and Kenneth later became members of Crown Heights Christian Church where she was a member at the time of her death. She also volunteered at the Oklahoma Food Bank and at her daughters' schools. Clara loved her garden, her roses, reading, the birds and squirrels she fed daily, OKC Thunder and OU Sooners, and especially her friends and family.

Clara is survived by her three daughters, her sister Dorothy Bridgeford, six grandchildren and several great- and great great-grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 2009, by her parents, and by one sister and three brothers.

A Memorial Service was held for Clara on Sunday, February 26, in the Chapel of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, OKC. Burial was Monday, February 27, at the Watonga IOOF Cemetery.

Edith Irene Parvin Young

Edith Irene Parvin Young of Watonga, OK, was born in Seay Township in Northeastern Blaine County, OK, on February 25, 1923, and died just one hour short of her 94th birthday on February 24, 2017. She was the seventh of ten children born to Leonard and Mary Miller Parvin and was the granddaughter of original homesteaders Alexander and Caroline Lennox Davis Parvin.

When Edith was small, her family moved to a farm southeast of Hitchcock, and she attended Hitchcock schools and graduated in 1940. On November 20, 1946, she married Eugene Young in Gainesville, TX. The couple made their home northeast of Watonga where they raised a family of three daughters. They farmed and raised cattle for many years while Gene also began and grew his business of building and remodeling homes for many Blaine County area residents. In 1964 they sold the family farm and moved into the City of Watonga. At this time, Edith began working as a sales clerk at Tylers Department Store, and later worked at Stewards and Tincy’s.

Edith’s passions were her family; sewing; cake decorating for her family, friends and many fellow Watonga-area residents; and playing “Pitch” and “Wahoo.” Additionally, she was an ardent Oklahoma City Thunder fan. Family knew not to phone her when this favorite team of hers was playing one of its games.

Survivors include her three daughters: Kathy Kliewer and husband Arnold of Flower Mound, TX; Marilyn Terrico and husband Gene of Kissimmee, FL; and Dorene Robison and husband Don of Longdale, OK. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Scott Kliewer and his wife Denise of Norman, OK; Colin Kliewer and his wife Julie of Silver Spring, MD; Kayla Kliewer Ruiz and her husband Sam of Tucson, AZ; Matt Terrico of Orlando, FL; Gina Terrico Robinson and her husband Tyler of Silver Spring, MD; and Kristy Robison Dykes and her husband Levi of Fairview, OK. Edith also doted on her 8 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Leah, Brantley, Sarah, Bethany, Kenley, Luke, and Ariana.

She was preceded in death by Gene, her husband of 48 years, and she was the last remaining member of her family of 10 siblings.

Visitation is Tuesday and Wednesday, February 28 and March 1, at Wilkinson Mortuary, Watonga, OK. Funeral service and interment is Thursday, March 2, at 2 PM at the IOOF Cemetery, east of Watonga, with the Reverend Robert Hoile officiating.

Patricia Mae “Trisha” Killian 1948~2017

Trisha was born on July 18, 1948 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Joe and Mable (Wall) Clark. Her father was a Missionary Baptist Minister so the family fived in many different places including Healdton, OK, Shawnee, OK, Deming, New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Elk City, OK, and Lawton, OK. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1966. Trisha owned and operated Bull Chute Shoe Repair and Western Store in Watonga, OK and later worked as an office manager for many automotive businesses including Ferguson, Pontiac, Fowler Honda, and Byford Lincoln Mercury. She married Larry Killian on June 22, 1974 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Trisha was a member of the Letitia Baptist Church and was the glue in her family who enjoyed reading with her granddaughter, FB, and many games. She was a member of the Ladies Investment Club in Norman, OK, and the Oklahoma Historical Society on FB and being the family historian. She loved her nieces and nephews and gave everything to her family. Trisha passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at her home east of Lawton. She is survived by her husband, Larry Killian, of the home; her daughter, Brittainy Killian, of the home; her granddaughter, Emilee Killian, of the home; her brother and sister in-law, James E. and Sandi Clark of Carter, OK., five sisters and four brothers in-law, Clela Ingle, of Oklahoma City, OK, Martha and Donald Harris, of Oklahoma City, OK, Mary and Bob Bruce, of Pittsburg, KS, Helen and Dr.(David Emmott, of Kansas City, MO, and Cinda and Dave Cooper, of Merriam, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special friends, Janie Duper, Jana Loewen, and Deana Beneventi; and a host of other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother in- law and father in-law, Wanda and Walt Killian; two brothers, Wayland Clark and Wiley Clark and her sister, Jessie Yasevich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Letitia Baptist Church at 2606 S. State Highway 65, Lawton, Oklahoma 73501.

Charles Everett (Chuck) Wolsey 1946~2017

Charles Everett (Chuck) Wolsey was born February 26, 1946 at Watonga, Oklahoma to C. A. and Lockey (Davis) Wolsey and passed away March 2, 2017 at the age of 71. He was a life-long member of the Watonga community where he worked in a variety of occupations that enabled him to pursue his love of being a farmer/rancher. Chuck attended Watonga Public Schools graduating with the class of 1964. He was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and upon completing a tour of duty in Vietnam returned to Southwestern State University to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. Chuck furthered his education at Oklahoma State University obtaining a Master of Science degree in 1981. Chuck worked as the director of the Job Training Partnership Program through Opportunities Inc. from 1984 to 1999 and served as Oklahoma president of the JTPA Directors Association in the early 1990's. He was also a member of the Elks Club and served as secretary of the local chapter for several years. Chuck Wolsey was married to Ruth (Barnes)Wolsey on August 5, 1983 at Watonga, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.A. and Lockey Wolsey. He is survived by his wife Ruth, of the home in Watonga: A son, Jesse Wolsey, Wretham, Norfolk, United Kingdom and two daughter, Tammy Terry of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Ada Dyer, Watonga, Oklahoma. He is also survived by a brother, Ken Wolsey, and three granddaughters, Paisley Marie Dyer, Leila Grace Dyer, and Oakley June Dyer as well as many other relatives and friends. A memorial service for Chuck will be held Friday, March 10, 2017, at two o'clock at the Nazarene Church in Watonga, Oklahoma. Wilkinson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Karen Sue Phillips

Karen Sue Phillips was born March 8, 1959 at Pecos, Texas to Hollis and Vera Hill and passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at the age of 57. Karen was a resident of the Watonga community most of her life. For 25 years Karen worked at Hollytex as a quality control supervisor. Karen graduated from Pecos High School in 1977. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, and had a beloved cat Lucky; who she found at her home 8 years ago, and bottle fed. Karen married Pogo Phillips at Watonga, Oklahoma in 1986 on Valentine’s day. She was preceded in death by her parents. Karen is survived by her husband Pogo of the home in Watonga. One Daughter; Dawn Pepe and husband David of Springdale, Arkansas., One brother; Wayne Hill of South Carolina, One sister; Joni Frugia of Rosharon, Texas. Two grandchildren; Hunter and Laney Pepe. Arvel Persinger

Arvel Persinger was born October 21, 1934 to Abraham and Zettie Persinger and passed away March 10, 2017 at the age of 82. He was a resident of the Watonga community most of his life, where he worked for many years at Hollytex and United States Gypsum. Arvel was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved telling fishing and hunting stories, he was a kind, giving and helpful man and he loved to make people laugh. Arvel was married to Audrey Conley at Holdenville, OK on August 16, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife Audrey of the home in Watonga, OK, One son; Arvel Eugene Persinger Jr., of Watonga, OK, One daughter; Charlotte Kendall of Watonga, OK, Six grandchildren; T.J. Horseman Jr., Breanna Sessions, Kiana Sessions, Donetta Sessions, Taryn Sessions and Thomas Kendall II. Lola Frances Enlow (Alexander)

Lola Frances Enlow (Alexander) died peacefully in Overland Park, Kansas on March 10, 2017 at the age of 95. Lola is survived by her children Joleen from Junction City, Kansas and Keith and his wife Marguerite of Overland Park, Kansas, her grandchildren Drew (Emily) from San Jose, California and Jacob (Lindsay) from Olathe, Kansas, great-grandchildren Julie and Logan, siblings Dorothy Caulk of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Ellen Henley of Perry, Oklahoma, James Alexander of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and Fred (Twila) Alexander of Canton, Oklahoma, many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Omer Keith Enlow, parents James and Viola Alexander, siblings Elnora, Darlene, and Ray Dean, and stepmother Mae (Hughes), Lola was born on August 25, 1921 in Okeene, Oklahoma and grew up on a farm southeast of Canton. She graduated from Canton High School and then the Nursing School at Enid General Hospital in 1945, with her R.N. After graduation she joined the staff at Enid General as a surgical supervisor. She married Omer, a farmer-rancher in 1946. They made their home on the Enlow homestead in the Hitchcock area. She worked at the Watonga Municipal Hospital and the Watonga doctors’ clinic before joining the U.S. Public Health Service Indian Clinic in 1961, where she worked for over 22 years as a clinic nurse and facility director. Lola was very active in the Watonga community and she thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with her friends and neighbors as a hostess with the House family at the End O’Main restaurant on Saturday evenings. She was accomplished at all types of needlework, particularly intricately detailed crocheting and beautifully detailed quilts. She enjoyed collecting Madam Alexander dolls, being a member of the ’21 Club, walking thousands of miles around the Watonga High School track and making home-made cinnamon rolls, angel food cakes and noodles for church events and the Watonga Cheese Festival annual dinners. She was an active and dedicated member of the Watonga United Methodist Church for over 40 years, the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Circle. In her later years, Lola moved to be closer to her family in Kansas. Although Oklahoma was always her home and she never really converted from being a Sooner to a Jayhawk, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made many new friends at the Rose Estates in Overland Park. A funeral service was scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Watonga United Methodist Church,. . A reception followed in the church hall. Betty Gean Hites 1936~2017

Funeral services for Betty Gean Hites, 80 year-old Watonga, Oklahoma resident, will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017, 10:00 A.M. at the Trinity Baptist Church in Watonga with Carol Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in West Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Watonga under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford. Betty was born September 17, 1936, in Fay, Oklahoma to Carl and Charlotte (Bingham) Elston and passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Brookdale Sterling House in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Betty was raised in the Fay, Oklahoma area and attended school at Eagle City. On October 2, 1952, she married Harvey Blankenship. They made their home in California for two years while Harvey was in the military. Betty and Harvey returned to Oklahoma and lived in Clinton and later moved around to Amarillo, Liberal, and Watonga. She settled in Oklahoma City in 1965 and worked as a machinist for L & S Bearings, retiring in 2005. Betty enjoyed playing Bingo, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Brody Gene Sims Memorial Scholarship fund. Betty is survived by one son, Terry Blankenship and wife, Janet of Watonga, Oklahoma; one brother, Dale Elston and wife, Ann of Watonga, Oklahoma; two sisters, Pepper Hart of Watonga, Oklahoma and Carolyn Howard and husband, Jack of Ringwood, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George; one sister, Eileene; one grandson, Terry Lee Blankenship II; one great-grandson, Brody Sims; and brother-in-law, Roy Hart.

Darlene Cooper 1945~2017

Darlene Cooper age 71 of Greenfield, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017. She was born to Ralph and Ruth Hill Baker on August 30, 1945 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Darlene attended Enid Schools, following high school she married the love of her life, Jack Cooper on November 8, 1963, from this union two daughters were born; Teresa and Melissa. They traveled for work to Reno, Nevada and Sacramento, California. The Cooper family found their way back to Blaine County in 1974. Darlene loved her community as she worked at various businesses in Watonga. She managed Bills Dollar Store which she retired from in 2000. She attended Etna Wesleyan Church in Geary. Darlene had a burning love for Elvis Presley, she collected numerous memorabilia and was a member of the Elvis Presley Fan Club. She also enjoyed playing cards and watching the lifetime network. Her biggest passion was watching her grandsons play sports. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Bill Baker and Bob Baker and one sister, Betty Baker. Darlene is survived by her husband Jack of the home in Greenfield, her daughters; Teresa and Melissa, her grandsons; Austin and Dominique; her brother, Jim Baker and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Darlene will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Nazarene Church in Watonga. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga. Janetta Mae (Patsy) Sinclair 1942~2017

Janetta Mae (Patsy) Sinclair was born November 16, 1942 at home in east of Greenfield, OK to Gus and Ruth Erlenmaier and passed away March 23, 2017 at the age of 74. Patsy was a resident of the Watonga community for 54 years where she was a wife and homemaker. She graduated from Greenfield High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Watonga, Blaine County HSE, the Quilt Club, Young at Heart and various other organizations. Patsy married Buford Sinclair at the Greenfield Baptist Church in Greenfield, OK on September 7, 1961 and together they shared 55 years of marriage. Patsy and Gara Lauminack started the Watonga Cheese Festival many years ago to create cooking competitions with the use of the local cheese factory. Patsy and Buford started Santa’s Village held every December for the past 35 plus years. She won numerous grand champions and other awards for her sewing, canning and baking. Patsy was involved in numerous community activities throughout the years. She loved traveling with Buford and attending gospel singing events and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived her husband Buford of the home in Watonga, OK; Three daughters: Tammi Schumacher and husband Dale; Sandra Ferguson and husband David; Janetta Jones and husband Tom. Four sisters: Janice Waldrop and late husband Marion, Barbara Sinclair and husband Glen; Iva Nell Walker and late husband LeRoy and Betty Edgar and husband Dick; Grandchildren: Sarah Schmidt, Bobbi Cathey, Brandi and Tosha Sinclair, Jamie, Jacob and Jessica Tiner, Natalie, Jill, Jarett and Sam Jones and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services for Patsy will be Monday, March 27, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Watonga, with burial following in the Eagle city Cemetery in Eagle City. Flora (Flo) Mary Ella Tharp

Flora Mary Ella Tharp (Flo) went into her Lords arms while in her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico on 03/23/2017, with her caregiver and adopted daughter Margaret Malone at her side. She had reached the age of 99-1/2 (wow!) Flora is survived by her youngest sister Gertrude (Gertie) Snyman of Mimbres, NM. She is preceded in death by her two older brothers William (Bill) Davidson & John Davidson, and by her younger sister Edith Weaver. She is also preceded in death by Harold F. Loy (her former husband for over 60 years and father of their children). She is also preceded in death by her last husband Wm Claude Tharp of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Flora is further survived by many nieces and nephews, and stepchildren. Flora married Harold Loy and had a farm in Oklahoma. They both faced the tragic deaths of their two young children Mary Ella and Robert Frank Loy. To fill that loss, Flora and Harold happily became foster parents to a family of 7 orphaned children, and then went on to become house parents for the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home in El Paso, Texas and Monroe, Louisiana parenting hundreds of children throughout their lives. Flora was born on 08/17/1917 in Medicine Park, Oklahoma to Robert F. Davidson and Sarah F. Burleson. Flora dedicated her studies under well-known artists for 33 years. She painted oil landscapes, still-life, and watercolors, and China paintings, and acrylics while residing in Monroe, Louisiana. Collections of her paintings are in various locations – such as Switzerland, Louisiana, California, Oregon, Alaska, Texas, New Mexico and other states. She also had private showings during her career as an artist. She was a member of Las Cruces Arts & Crafts, Black Range Artists Inc, Porcelain Art Association. She once was also the Treasurer of the Pen Women group, and her last employment was manager of the Hospitality House in Las Cruces, NM. Flora was very influential in extending her love and friendship to everyone she met. She enjoyed being a “grandparent” and source of kind-heartedness to every child / person she came in contact with during her long life. Flora left a huge imprint with the impact of her humorous and giving personality. Graveside services for Flora will be held Thursday April 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Hitchcock Oklahoma. Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Rosella Stephenson

Ethel Rosella Stephenson was born Aug. 25, 1920 in Canton, OK, she was the daughter of William Thomas Seifried and Emma Eliza (Blanka) Seifried. She passed early Sunday morning April 9 in Edmond, OK. She married James Porter Stephenson on April 22, 1936. They made their home and farmed west of Oakwood until the mid-1950s when they moved to Watonga. They were well known in the farming communities of Oakwood and Watonga. In 2010 she moved to Edmond to be closer to her sister. Ethel enjoyed playing golf, sewing, cooking and working hard in her yard. She was also an avid pro-basketball and football fan. She always watched the games on TV and could even give you the names of most of the players. She is survived by her sister, Glenda Eisenhour and husband Lloyd Eisenhour, Edmond, OK, and her niece Connie Higgins in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Charles William Seifried, her two nephews, Darrel D. and Paul Wayne Seifried and one niece, Melanie Marie Eisenhour Salter. Special thanks to Bradford Village Assisted Living for their wonderful care for the past three years and to Humanity Hospice for their wonderful support and care. Funeral services for Lou Ann Wooley, 62, of Canton, OK were held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Eagle City Christian Church with Pastor Monte Michaelson officiating. Interment followed in Eagle City Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. Lou Ann (Cox) Wooley was born October 28, 1954 at Thomas, OK to parents Loren and Mary (Plummer) Cox. She departed this life on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Oklahoma City, OK. Lou Ann attended elementary school at Fay, OK and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1972 as the Salutatorian. She also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford. Lou Ann married Cleophas Wooley in 1974 at the Canton Christian Church. She formerly had owned a flower shop in Canton and currently owned and operated Movie Poster Service with her husband. Lou Ann enjoyed genealogy, decorating and quilting. Her family was of utmost importance to her. Lou Ann was preceded in death by her father, Loren Cox. Survivors include her husband, Cleophas Wooley of Canton, OK; children Wendy Gammon of Seiling, OK, Alan Wooley and wife Lonnie of Marble Falls, TX and Brett Wooley of Eagle City, OK; her mother, Mary Cox of Eagle City, OK; four siblings, Alan Cox of Edmond, OK, Joyce Barclay and husband Dave of Lake Charles, LA, Bryan Cox and wife Crystal and Mark Cox and wife Amy, all of Eagle City, OK; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Kenneth R. Smith was born May 10, 1942 to Raymond Paul and Opal Mae (Miller) Smith in El Reno, OK. He passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home in Geary, OK at the age of 74. Kenneth graduated from Calumet High School. He has lived in the Geary-Calumet area all of his life. He was united in marriage to Dixie Hall September 25, 1959 in Kingfisher, OK. Kenneth was a farmer and rancher known for his hard work and complete dedication and love to his family. He farmed wheat, alfalfa, and various other crops. He was a hard working man, a perfectionist, always striving to raise the perfect crop or the perfect show pig. Kenneth loved helping kids with their 4-H and FFA projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and later enjoyed working in his yard and orchard. For many years, Kenneth participated in the Maundy Thursday program at the First Christian Church where he played the part of Simon. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geary, and served on various boards such as the Calumet School Board, Calumet Farmer's Coop Gin Board, and the Central North Canadian Soil Conservation Board. Kenneth was Daddy, PaPa, and Uncle Kenneth to the children of the family, always guiding, giving and loving. . He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Opal Smith, grandson, Brian Kenneth Baker, and one brother, Douglas P. Smith. Kenneth is survived by his wife Dixie Smith of the home, Geary; three children, Kimberlee Kidwell and her husband Tommy of Calumet, David Smith and his wife Misty of Hobart, and Darin Smith and his wife Anita of Geary; thirteen grandchildren, Mindy Wigington and her husband Andy of Watonga, Myra Nettles and her husband Stormy of Dacoma, OK, Molly Smith and her husband Andy of Geary, Kellan, Kenlee, and Karissa Smith all of Hobart, Aaron and Hannah Goodman both of Stillwater, Davis Reents of Hobart, Kenneth Paul Smith of Norman, Stuart and Sterling Smith both of Geary, and Desi Kidwell of Baltimore, MD; eleven great grandchildren, Braxton Baker, Terner, Tate, and Libby Wigington, Shadi, Mylee, and Cash Nettles, Kale, Kaylee Mae and Kane Smith, and Adriahna Lauman; one sister, Norma Penwright of Calumet, OK; brother-in-law, Greg Hall and his wife Arnelda of Geary; nieces and nephews, Paul Penwright and his wife Lisa of Ada, Mark Penwright of Calumet, Jon Penwright and his wife Kandee of Yukon, Joel Penwright and his wife Stacey of Oklahoma City, Dawn Wedman and her husband Mark of Tulsa, Chris Hall and his wife Amy of Edmond, and Kent Hall of Mustang. William Wayne Red Hat, Jr.

William Wayne Red Hat, Jr., 68, of Longdale, Oklahoma departed from this life on April 12, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City. William was born on March 21, 1949 in Clinton, Oklahoma to William Wayne Red Hat, Sr. and Emma Annie Curtis. William (grandson to the late Southern Cheyenne Arrow Keeper Edward Red Hat and Minnie Red Hat) was raised and taught in the traditional Southern Cheyenne ways from a very young age. During his practice, he attended school in Longdale. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his combat training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California and recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, soon followed by his fight in the Vietnam War. William served his country and the corps with distinction, earning numerous awards including: Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm). After being wounded he returned to the states, and reunited with his family. On March 15, 1973 he was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. When he returned home he followed in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Edward Red Hat and father, William Wayne Red Hat, Sr., both of whom were Southern Cheyenne Arrow Keepers. He met Nellie Belly Mule in 1972, and soon after began a traditional loving marriage that followed with their family. In 1989, he became a Southern Cheyenne Blue Sky Keeper. In 1993, after the passing of his father, William Wayne Red Hat, Jr., was appointed and served the last twenty-four years as Keeper of the Sacred Arrows to the Southern Cheyenne. William is survived by wife, Nellie Red Hat; daughter Marsha Shannon Yellow Horse and husband Paul Yellow Horse, granddaughters Caitlyn and Cori; son Brian Edward Red Hat and wife Norene Red Hat, grandchildren Ryan, Alicia, Lauryn, Brianna, Stella, Kiara, Kiana, Alyse and Alysia; son Luther Rondeau Red Hat and grandchildren Shiloh, Nellie, Bethany, Bill, and Curtis; daughter Ona Sybil Red Hat; daughter Emily Denise Red Hat and grandchildren Calvin, Harry, Isabella, BJ, Jackson, and Kingston; daughter Eva Marlene Red Hat and grandchildren Daymein, Emilia, and Sophie; daughter Dorothy Mae Red Hat and grandchildren Dominic, Liliana, and Cameron; daughter Minnie Mae Mickle and husband Nick Mickle; and three great grandchildren; four sisters, Eva Big Medicine and husband Joe, Zola Old Bear and husband Ronald, Pat Whiteeagle and husband George and Pam Red Hat; one brother, Steve Red Hat and wife Monica; numerous other extended family. He was preceded in death by father William Wayne Red Hat Sr.; mother Emma Annie Curtis; brother Luther Red Hat; sister Marilyn Red Hat; brother Edward Red Hat; sister Minoma Koshiway and brother Albert Red Hat Sr. A traditional all-night wake service began at 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening, April 15, 2017 at the Red Hat residence southwest of Longdale, OK. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Canton Native American Gymnasium with Reverend Gerald Panana officiating.
