
Ethel Evelyn Scheurer Zeka, 92, of Wellington, Kansas passed from this life on Sunday, July 24th, 2016. She was born to George and Pearle (Bradford) Sheurer on February 23, 1924 at the family farm near Watonga, Oklahoma. Ethel was the oldest daughter, the third child of seven siblings in the family and the last surviving sibling. On July 6, 1941 she and Frank Martin Zeka were united in marriage at Geary, Oklahoma. They began their married life on the family farm at Eagle City, Oklahoma. In 1968 she and Frank and the six youngest of their nine children moved to Wellington, Kansas and continued farming in that area. Ethel was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of faith. She provided examples of that faith throughout her life by attending church regularly, being an active member of her faith community and supporting various worthy programs. She will be remembered for acts of thoughtfulness like crocheting afghans for many family members, making blankets for the many babies in the family, and for the quilts she made for her children and grandchildren. Among Ethel's favorite activities were reading, visiting with family, riding horses, playing cards, dancing with Frank, tending to her flowers, having coffee with friends, emails to her family, visiting the casino, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, solving crossword puzzles and enjoying pineapple-banana ice cream. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Frank in September of 2005, her grandson, Jared Coulter, greatgrandson Caleb Roesel, and granddaughter, Sicily Evelyn Zeka, her siblings: George Scheurer, Harold Scheurer, Ruth Dickens, Jeanne Landis, Cleo Gerber, and Bob Scheurer. Survivors include: her children, Keith Zeka and wife Robin of Joplin, Missouri, Larry Zeka and wife Jane of Canton, Oklahoma, Teresa Benway and husband Mike of Enid, Oklahoma, Marty Zeka and wife Patti of Wellington, Kansas, Robert Zeka and wife Pat of Wellington, Kansas, MaryAnn Coulter and husband Terry of Wellington, Kansas, Betty Kay Zeka of Wellington, Kansas, Valerie Ledesma and husband Chris of Wellington, Kansas and Patrick Zeka and wife Kerry of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 29 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and three on the way, numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Clydene Scheurer of Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2016 with the family present from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2016 at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church, 210 North B Street in Wellington, Kansas. Father Pham will officiate.
