Funeral services for Hazel O. (Jump) Lanning, 96 year-old Watonga, OK resident, will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church in Greenfield, OK with Dennis King officiating, Burial will follow in East Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Watonga under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Thomas. Hazel Oakley was one of seven children born on December 11, 1919 in Hollister, OK to Solomon M. and Susan E. Mitchell Jump. Hazel left this world for her heavenly home on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at her daughter’s home. Hazel was the daughter of a farmer and a blacksmith. The family slowly made their way from Hollister north before settling on a farm West of Greenfield. After graduation, she met the love of her life and married Lloyd Lanning on October 19, 1941 in Watonga. The couple made their home on the Lanning farm. Soon a daughter, Barbara was born to the couple and later a son Stacy. She and Lloyd worked side by side thought out the years on the farm pulling cotton and milking cows. Hazel loved the farm life, gardening and being busy with her hands. She was responsible for outfitting her grandchildren with school clothes. Hazel had many hobbies thought out the years. Hazel operated the Donut shop in Watonga during the 1970’s for many years. Her grandchildren would often accompany her at 3:00 a.m. from the farm to Watonga to help. Although they slept while the hard work was being done. Some Watonga resident still remember how she would make them special do-nuts. Lloyd and Hazel retired in 1978 and moved to Watonga. She loved to bowl and had many trophies from this. She loved to fish and play golf, a passion she passed down to some of her grandsons. She had a passion for making life more beautiful. She made many treasures for her family with ceramics and wood. Hazel loved her family and to travel. After Stacy and Lloyd passed away, she and Barbara frequently took trips to visit family and see the country. Hazel loved nature and often made friends with her birds and squirrels in the back yard. She fed every stray cat in the neighborhood. She filled her days working in her yard and garden. She had a love for life that was with her until her death. She had many friends and was a frequent caretaker to them. She had quick wit and always felt like you should make work fun. She loved her children and grandchildren. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Barbara Walker of Thomas, OK; grandchildren, Shelia Thomas and her husband, Jeff of Broken Arrow, OK, Michael Walker, Kelli Litsch and her husband, Slade of Thomas, OK and Melody Hamiliton and her husband, Shayne of Arnett, OK; 10 great-grandchildren, Cruz, Sierra and Dakota Thomas of Broken Arrow, OK, Cody and Brody Walker of Seiling, OK, Jimmie Litsch and wife, Brandy, Levi Stewart and Kade Litsch all of Thomas, OK, Shayna Hamilton and Riley Smith of Arnett, OK; great-great grandchildren, Oakley and McClayne Litsch and Treylon and Trew Pool of Thomas, Ok. She also had the good fortune of seeing 5 generations with her great-great grandchildren, Oakley and McClayne. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her son, Stacy; three great-grandchildren, Quinci and Logan Stewart and Micah Walker; four brothers; and two sisters.
