A celebration of the life of longtime Weatherford resident Donald "Don" Wayne Blagg, was held Tuesday, July 5, at Pine Acres Church with Pastors Brian Harris, Tony Cannon, and Mark Sinor officiating. Don was born March 25, 1943, at Thomas, OK to Wayne and Helen Blagg, He passed away Thursday, June 30 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Don was raised and attended school at Thomas, OK. His life was idyllic as he grew up in a small farming community in western Oklahoma. His first town job was at age 11, carrying groceries at the Farmer's Union Grocery Store, making $4.00 for a 12 hour day. Don first saw his dad when his dad returned from WWII, and spent many quality hours with him on the farm. His dad passed away when Don was 14, and Don took on the farming responsibilities. In 1965 Don was awarded the American Farmer Award from the National FFA organization. Football was a big part of his high school years. He lettered as a freshman on the 1957 State Championship team. Football, FFA, and cars were the backbone of his curriculum and he graduated from Thomas High School in 1961. He then attended Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee for two years. Don enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1964 and was honorably discharged at the rank of E-7 SFC in 1970. He worked for A.J. Sawatzky Construction in 1964-65. Don married the love of his life, Sharon Harris in 1965. Together they ran Blagg's Sundries in Geary for 13 years, along with farming and carrying the mail, and started a family. Don returned to Sawatzky's in 1980 and continued working there until his death. He worked all positions from general labor to general manager, and "loved almost all of it". Music was a huge part of Don's life. He often said he was blessed to have played with some of the finest musicians and friends his entire life. Don received Jesus as his savior at age 17. Don often said "God has greatly blessed me and has shown me His miracles all of my life. God is very real to me". For many years Don has been a part of the worship teams at church and active in Bill Glass (Behind The Walls) Prison Ministries. Don loved his family deeply and fiercely. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; son Matt and wife Karrie; daughter Shannan and her husband Ion; grandchildren Ethan, Emily, and Ella Blagg and Sebastian and Cristian Ghera. Don was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Helen Blagg-Frans, his step dad, C.E. Frans, mother and father-in-law Elbert and Katie Harris.
